Let's talk tradition...

Traditionally, a personal monogram would consist of two to three initials (first, middle and last names). If you don’t have a middle name (like Isabel and her daughters), you can use a dual initial monogram (first and last name) or just use your last initial only.

Historically, a man’s initials would remain the same once married, while women would lose their maiden name or swap it to the middle slot and take their husband’s last name in place of their own. But today, sometimes couples use both last names, with a hyphen in-between.

When the bride takes the groom's last name, the woman's first name initial comes first, followed by the shared last name initial, and finally the man's first initial. Laura Mamone Oliva and Tony William Oliva would use LOT as their joint monogram.

If the bride and groom decide to share a hyphenated last name, a hyphen is also used in the monogram. Laura Rose Mamone and Tony William Oliva would be the Mamone-Oliva family and use L M-O T as their joint monogram. On the occasion the bride keeps her given name, the couple's monogram would be dual initials only; for example, Laura Rose Mamone and Tony William Oliva would use M O as their joint monogram.

Since we're talking tradition, you should only use a joint or married monogram once official - Viva gli Sposi!
